Parish of Santiago.

The parish of Santiago, in Gothic-Mudéjar style, was initiated in 1503, by testamentary disposition of García Méndez de Sotomayor, the Commander of the Order of Santiago. Traditionally considered as the old Jewish synagogue, it is possible that its construction reused materials from the then recently demolished old temple of San Mateo, where the old synagogue and mosque could actually have been. The church has a rectangular shape, with three aisles divided by octagonal pillars supporting pointed brick arches with alfiz. The three aisles are covered with a reconstructed coffered ceiling following the model of the original. Today, decorated in harmony with the Mudéjar style of the rest of the temple, it houses the Christ of the Column, a work by the renowned Sevillian sculptor Pedro Roldán, made in the 17th century, and Our Lady of Hope.
