Neighborhood of La Villa and Balcony of the Adarve.

Declared a Historic-Artistic Ensemble in 1972. It is the original urban nucleus of present-day Priego. Clearly inspired by medieval and Moorish influences, it is akin to the most typical Andalusian neighborhoods, such as Granada's Albaicín or Córdoba's Jewish Quarter. Its streets are winding, white, and narrow, forming a perfect harmony of beauty, flowers, peace, and tranquility, with lime and stone. Although we encourage the wanderer to get lost in its labyrinths and narrowness, we recommend a route that starts from Plaza de Santa Ana, follows Calle Real until reaching Placita de San Antonio, beautiful and secluded, continues along Calle Jazmines, crosses Calle Real again, and exits through Bajondillo to the Adarve, an open balcony to the Andalusian landscape that embraces and surrounds the La Villa neighborhood. A natural gorge with a considerable slope, the Tajo has guaranteed Priego's impregnability through this location throughout its history.
