ESPADA DEL CID CAMPEADOR-SWORD OF THE CID CAMPEADOR

Going up the main street, attached to a column, we find the Tizona, sword of Mio Cid, which recalls the great victory he obtained in the "Battle of Cabra". Feat that apparently gave him the name of Campeador (fighter) and that appears reflected at the beginning of the Cantar de Mio Cid:

"The king of Granada and the rich men paid no attention to the Cid's letters, and they were all with great force and they destroyed the king of Seville all the land up to the castle of Cabra” “Ruy Díaz, when he heard that, thought that it would not be right not to attack them and he went against them and fought with them in the field, and the pitched battle lasted from the Terce hour until noon, and the mortality that there was there of Moors and Christians in the part of the King of Granada was great, and the Cid defeated them and made them flee from the field. And the Cid took Count García Ordóñez prisoner in this battle and tore a lock of his beard and many other knights and innumerable foot warriors. And the Cid held them prisoner for three days, and then he released them all.”
