Archaeological Museum

The Egabrense Archaeological Museum was created by Ministerial Order on January 15, 1973, with its headquarters in the premises of the Town Hall. In 1984, it was relocated to the building that housed the Bank of Spain, now the House of Culture, where it has remained ever since. We access it after passing through a wrought iron gate flanked by four columns of red marble from Cabra. It occupies most of the ground floor, with the materials arranged around the "Patio de Columnas", so named for its 10 columns of veined red marble that form a covered square enclosure, in the center of which is a multicolored stained glass window allowing the passage of light. The exhibited materials have been obtained through excavations carried out in the "Villa del Mitra" and "La Veleña", chance discoveries, surface collections, donations, and purchases. They have been arranged according to chronological criteria: from the Paleolithic to the present day. The entire exhibition attests to the importance that Cabra and its surroundings have had throughout history.
